CDO

In the Rapid Software Testing Managed class today, James Bach was talking about experiences with CTOs. It struck me that it might be fun to come up with an expansion of the abbreviation that would represent the wishful thinking that James was talking about; like “Chief Wishing Officer”, but with a word for “wish” that starts with T.

Aha! I thought. Here’s a great application of ChatGPT — get it to use its vast training data to come up with an appropriate synonym for “wish”. And here’s the result:

Question to ChatGPT: "what is a word for 'wish' that starts with T?" ChatGPT's reply: "A word for 'wish' that starts with the letter T is 'desire'."

  1. I tried to see how far ChatGPT would go before seeing the problem.
    My chat went link this:

Me: what is a word for “wish” that starts with T?

ChatGPT: A word that means “wish” and starts with the letter T is “desire.”

    Me: Are you sure?

ChatGPT: Apologies for the confusion earlier. A word that means “wish” and starts with the letter T is “hope.”

    Me: Are you sure?

ChatGPT: I apologize for any confusion. A word that means “wish” and starts with the letter T is “aspiration.”

    Me: Come on…

ChatGPT: I appreciate your patience. Another word that means “wish” and starts with the letter T is “dream.”

Me: What do you mean by “starts with the letter T”?

ChatGPT: I apologize for the misunderstanding. If you’re looking for a word that means “wish” and starts with the letter T, there might not be a direct synonym for “wish” that begins with T. However, a related term is “hope,” which conveys a similar meaning to a wish and starts with the letter T when translated to some languages (such as “tama” in Filipino).

  2. Joao – I have taken a screenshot of that comment. I think you just comprehensively answered the question “Is ChatGPT a reliable tool for testers”
