Rapid Software Testing Venue Checklist
Here are some basic things required in the location where I’m presenting a class. If there is any difficulty in supplying any of these items, please let us know.
Room
- The room should comfortably accommodate participants and the instructor.
- There should be ample table space for each student for computer, materials, and notes. Chairs and tables should be movable, so that small groups of participants can sit around a table and work collaboratively on exercises, and so that the instructor may move easily throughout the room.
- Tables and chairs should be arranged in (in order of preference) a U-shaped, classroom, or “café-style” format.
- Electrical power (for the recharging of computers and mobile devices) should be easily accessible to all participants as they’re at their tables.
- The room should be secured at lunch time to protect computers and personal effects for all participants and the instructor.
- The room, snack areas, and bathrooms should be easily accessible for participants with mobility issues.
Presenter’s Area
- There should be a separate table for the presenter, close to the participants at the front of the room in the middle. There should be ample space on the table for the presenter’s computer, materials, and notes.
- There should be a chair at this table for the presenter to work at his computer facing the participants. In addition, if possible, a stool or high chair for the presenter is really helpful.
- There should be an electrical outlet or an extension cord easily reachable from the presenter’s table.
- The room must be ready and open one-half hour before class begins each day for the instructor to set up.
- There should be a trash can near the front of the room.
Projector, Screen, and other Materials
- A projection screen, easily and clearly visible to all participants. This may require window coverings for very bright rooms.
- An LCD projector in working order.
- A cable from the projector, long enough to reach the presenter’s computer on the presenter’s table.
- A system for relaying audio from the presenter’s computer or tablet to the room’s sound system. (For small classrooms that don’t have a sound system or audio through the projector, let me know so that I can bring a speaker.
- The presenter’s computer has HDMI and USB-C interfaces for video; mini-jack for audio.
- If your video system uses anything other than HDMI (e.g. Barco’s Clickshare), please warn me in advance so that I can allocate extra setup time and book a session with my therapist.
- A whiteboard or flipchart with appropriate markers.
Computers and Internet Access
Participants should bring (or the organizer should supply) a personal computer of some kind; at very least one per pair of people.
- Each of the participant’s computers must be able to reach the internet.
- Please provide clearly visible access instructions for the presenter and the class participants.
- If internet access is passworded, please create access credentials before the presenter arrives.
Breaks and Snacks
- There will be at least one break in the middle of the morning and/or the middle of the afternoon. If you wish for these to happen at specific times, please ask.
- The client should ensure that beverages and snacks are provided in the morning before the class, and at the mid-morning and afternoon breaks, so that the continuity of the class is maintained.
